Get To Know Me

My name is Beverley, and I'm a counselling psychologist registered with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA). I'm based in Johannesburg, and I believe that everyone deserves to be heard without judgment. When you walk into my office, I hope that you find an environment where you can speak freely, knowing that whatever you share will be met with genuine understanding and respect.

What I've come to understand over the years is that people already carry their own wisdom. My role isn't to tell you what to do or how to feel. It's to help you access what you already know but might have trouble hearing over the noise of daily life. My style is warm, direct and I'll be honest with you about what I notice, and I'll always respect your right to disagree or take things at your own speed.

When I'm not in the office, you'll find me in the bush, exploring nature's beauty and finding clarity in the stillness of the outdoors. There's something about hiking through winding trails or simply sitting quietly among the trees that reminds me of the strength and adaptability we all carry within us. I think this connection to nature influences how I work in that there's a natural rhythm to healing that can't be rushed, and sometimes the most profound insights come when we slow down and listen.

My Approach to Therapy

In therapy, I believe that the relationship between therapist and client is essential. It’s built on trust, authenticity, and vulnerability, and it takes time to develop. As your therapist, I am here to listen and support you, but you are the expert of your own life. The work we do together is a collaborative effort, with you at the center of the process. My focus is on mid-to-long-term therapy because I believe real, meaningful change takes time.

My approach is simple: I listen carefully, ask thoughtful questions, and help you make sense of what you're experiencing. I don't believe in quick fixes or one-size-fits-all solutions. Instead, I work at your pace, following what feels most important to you. At times, we may focus on immediate concerns that are keeping you up at night. At other times, we'll explore deeper patterns that have been shaping your life in ways you might not have noticed.

My aim is not just to alleviate symptoms, but to help you cultivate self-awareness, resilience, and a sense of empowerment that can extend beyond the therapy room. I believe in the transformation of therapy.
